  • Passion, love, family, history, modernity, freedom, art, and jazz saxophone have not usually been associated with Japanese America.  That s because the wrenching memory of the incarceration of Japanese Americans during the Second World War has often clouded how they lived as creative people in modern America. This tape goes beyond the war as the centre stage of revealing the uniqueness of Japeanes Americans. It looks directly at Japanese American women as living artists and musicians in the new world. The tape looks at the working, creative, daily lives of Grace Munakata, one of California's emerging modern painters; Rumi Sakata, a traditional brush painter in the Japanese, and Chinese mode; and Jan Yonemoto, one of the world s few female Jazz saxophone players.
