Light as a feather/heavy as lead
Video Montage 2006
This video montage is based on a performance art work I alternately sink and float in a tank full of water for an hour. The work references constructs of female illness, persecution and resistance.
The composition emulates the picture plane of painting and contains elements of a tableau vivant, as well as referencing the Vancouver tradition of backlit photography.
The audio element contains the work of Chilean musician Violeta Parra, and the work of BC poet Pat Lowther and her daughter, Beth Lowther. It was performed in San Jose, Costa Rica, at the Klaus Steinmetz Gallery, and contains both English and Spanish subtexts.
