Diamela Eltit

This video is based on a book by Chilean author Diamela Eltit who in the work, reads fragments of her novel, Par La Patria (For the Country). The setting is an abandoned print shop which had been one of Chile s most important book shops in the 60s and 70s. It is a most appropriate symbol of the bankruptcy of official culture under dictatorship. The video represents the interaction of two cultures: life in the context of death.
